Local memorial service for late mayor May 21

FAIRFIELD — A celebration to honor the life of Erick Cook will be May 21 at Fairfield High School.

The former mayor of Fairfield died Sunday morning, April 18, after a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was 65.

The “Celebration of Life” service will be at 6:15 p.m. at the high school, 8800 Holden Blvd., with a reception to follow at Jungle Jim’s Oscar Event Center, 5440 Dixie Highway.

Cook resigned his mayor seat and retired as an elementary school principal the Kings Local School District in May 2005. He and his wife moved to South Carolina to be close to their children and grandchildren.

Cook was a beloved educator and principal in the Fairfield school district before moving over to the Kings district.

A memorial service for Cook will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Grace United Methodist Church on Sam Rittenbuerg Boulevard in West Ashley, South Carolina.
