Local minister faces felony charges

DAYTON — The case of a Dayton minister accused of forgery and receiving stolen property will now be heard by a Montgomery County grand jury.

A preliminary hearing in the case against Anthony P. Taylor, 45 of 812 Westwood Ave., was held Wednesday in Dayton Municipal Court. Bond was set at $100,000.

Dayton police arrested Taylor at the his home Dec. 21. He was still being held in the Montgomery County Jail as of late Wednesday afternoon.

Taylor’s arrest stems from an investigation by Dayton police and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office into the alleged use of stolen checks . A Dayton police report says Taylor matched the description of man who used a bad check at a local sign business to pay for a sign that said Unity Outreach Ministry.

The check used belonged to an account of a Monroe County couple, according to the report. The wife received a call from someone at the sign business about the check. Someone at the sign business also called Dayton police Nov. 14 to report the bad check. The caller told police that the Monroe County woman said a book of checks had been stolen from her home’s mailbox. The store employee also told police that the man who used the check said his name was Anthony Taylor.

A search of minister licenses on file with the Ohio Secretary of State office shows that an Anthony P. Taylor of 812 Westwood Ave. is a licensed minister and connected to the Church of the Living God The Pillar and Ground and Ground of the Truth Which He Purchased With His Own Blood, Inc.
