Local ready to be America’s Perfect Teen

VANDALIA — A Welsh schoolgirl caused some controversy last year when she took the crown at America’s Perfect Teen pageant.

But the crown could return stateside with the help of Jordan Brown, a graduating senior at Butler High School.

Brown, 19, won Ohio’s Perfect Teen contest, held last month in Columbus, after winning first runner-up last year. Her victory earns her a spot in August at America’s Perfect Teen pageant in Orlando, Fla. She has a chance to replace the current Perfect Teen, Wales-born Anysha Panesar.

To win the two-day competition in Columbus, Brown had to impress judges in swimsuit and evening-gown modeling events and a press-style interview.

“You have to be a well-rounded girl,” Brown said. “You have to be well polished.”

Brown is no stranger to pageantry. She says she began competing at the age of 4 and has been in about 35 pageants. She was named Miss Teen Ohio World in 2010.

Brown’s involvement in pageantry has helped her to launch a professional modeling career and advance causes she is passionate about. She recently signed with a modeling agency to do print and commercial work. Brown also works with Kenzie’s Closet, a charitable organization that helps make high school prom dresses available to girls who can’t afford them.

Brown said competing in beauty pageants has developed her confidence and conversation skills. Brown, who will attend the University of Cincinnati next year where she will major in communications, said these traits will come in handy in her professional pursuits.

“I did a competition through my school, and it was like a mock interview, and I placed first,” Brown said. “I give all the credit to pageants, which made me able to talk in front of people.”
