AAA spokesperson Kara Hitchens said, “With summer vacations coming up, bucking up every trip, every time can save lives.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts are the most effective means of reducing risk of death in a car crash. However, about 10 percent of drivers nationwide still don’t wear seatbelts.

This percentage is slightly higher in the Midwest, where 10.9 percent of drivers don’t wear seatbelts, according to the NHTSA.
