Man killed in early-morning motorcycle crash

Witnesses said they heard motorcycles revving their engines, and minutes later they heard loud banging noises, according to police. The crashing noise was the sound of a motorcycle tumbling down Needmore Road near the intersection of Wagner Ford Road.

The accident happened around 12:45 a.m., Wednesday. Witnesses told police when they heard the noise they looked outside and discovered a gruesome scene.

“One motorcycle out of the two just going end over end,” said Sgt. David Robison, OSP Dayton post. “Even though he may have looked okay on the outside he was severely injured on the inside.”

The internal injuries caused by the crash contributed to the death of the driver, identified as Steve Tipton, 36, of Xenia. Tipton was initially taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Troopers believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash and said the crash is an example of what not to do when riding a motorcycle.

“If you’re going to ride a motorcycle, I suggest you wear the proper gear,” said Robison. “Wear a helmet, you never know what’s going to happen. It may not be your fault, but if a helmet’s going to be on there it may save your life.” Robison said Tipton was not wearing any protective gear when the accident occurred. He was reportedly only wearing a t-shirt.

The crash remains under investigation.
