Middletown police are investigating an incident early Thursday morning in which a man said he was held against his will.

A man told officers he had been held in a Manchester Avenue residence for about six hours before breaking out a window and yelling for help.

“Apparently he had been drinking there when people at the residence decided he owed them money,” said Maj. Scott Reeve.

The man said the people decided to hold him a the residence until the beginning of the month, when his Social Security check would be deposited, to get the money he allegedly owed.

When officers arrived at the residence about 3 p.m. after the man escaped, the other people at the house fled.
