UPDATE @ 8:30 p.m.: Matthew Cain has been booked into the Darke County Jail, where he is being detained on charges stemming from his attempt to avoid capture near Pitsburg.

According to the jail's online records, Cain is being detained on warrants accusing him of possession of criminal tools and drug possession, both felonies.

The new charges, stemming from the arrest in Darke County this afternoon, are driver's license suspension and failure to control a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors.

UPDATE @ 6:15 p.m.:

People in the Pitsburg community who were aware authorities were looking for someone, called the sheriff’s office when they saw a pedestrian and that led to the arrest to end the manhunt, said Sgt. David Robison, Ohio Highway Patrol Piqua Post.

"This is just law enforcement and community working together," he said.

Matthew Cain, who was driving a black sedan, stopped in the 3100 block of Gettysburg-Pitsburg Road. He had been ordered to pull over for a speeding violation. Before troopers could get to the car, Cain had run to a nearby cornfield, Robison said.

Two other males in the car were able to identify Cain, Robison said, noting they were cooperative and subsequently released. A ride came to pick them up.

Darke County deputies checked out a report from people in the community about a man they saw walking in the area. That man turned out to be Cain, who was arrested north of state Route 571 near Delisle Fourman Road, Robison said.

Authorities had brought in an airplane from the state patrol and two K-9 units to search because it’s difficult to find a person hiding in a cornfield, Robison said. Still, Cain was able to break the perimeter but couldn’t avoid capture.

Robison said the state patrol will present new charges to the prosecutor's office that include speeding, fleeing and eluding, and possibly obstruction.

UPDATE @ 5:50 p.m.:

The manhunt has ended with the arrest of a 32-year-old Greenville man who was wanted on at least two felony warrants.

Two other people in the car Matthew Cain ran from during a traffic stop in the 3100 block of Gettysburg-Pitsburg Road were not detained.
