Marsh Supermarket to close area location

HAMILTON — Marsh Supermarket on Erie Highway will close as it is not expected to renew its lease, according to the company.

Marsh Supermarkets Inc. determined it could not renew its lease at 1790 S. Erie Hwy. because the grocery store wasn’t meeting sales requirements or location or growth potential, according to a statement from company spokeswoman Connie Gardner. Employees will be offered transfers to other Marsh locations, according to the statement.

The closing date of the location — and the number of employees losing jobs — has not yet been released.

Marsh has two other locations in Hamilton — 1204 Main St. and 1500 Plaza Drive — where employees could possibly be transferred.

“We want to sincerely thank our loyal customers who we have had the privilege of serving at this location,” read the statement from Marsh Supermarkets.

Marsh Supermarkets is an Indianapolis, Ind.-based grocer with roughly 100 locations in Indiana and Ohio. The parent company Sun Capital Partners of Florida ended efforts to sell the chain this year.

Other Butler County locations of Marsh include 621 N. University Blvd., Middletown; 5065 Pleasant Ave., Fairfield and in Warren County, 1084 E. 2nd St., Franklin.
