“We wanted to do something to show our appreciation to all of those people who make the Badin community special,” said Gina Helms, director of campus ministry. “We want to come together as a family that night.”
The school is asking students to refrain — “fast” — from using their cell phones today, watching television Wednesday and using the Internet on Thursday. Then they’ll talk about the significance of the “media fast” in religion classes Friday.
“Students will find that there are so many other valuable things to do,” Helms said.
Eight Badin students will represent the school today at the annual Catholic Schools Week Mass at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral in downtown Cincinnati, according to school spokesman Dirk Allen.
There are two special out-of-uniform days for students — Parish Wear Day today, during which students will wear something representative of their Catholic parish; and Patriotic Wear Day on Friday, when students will be allowed to wear something patriotic.
Badin students will have the opportunity to buy paper stars for $1 and then write their response to the prompt “I value my Catholic education because ...” Those stars will be hung in the gym and in the lobby of Badin High School throughout the week.
“I certainly value my Catholic education,” said Principal Frank Margello, “and I value being around the outstanding students and faculty at Badin High School. This is always a refreshing week to underline the importance of Catholic education and how it has a tremendously positive impact on the community around us.”
The theme for the week is “Catholic Schools are A+ for America.”
