MIDDLETOWN — The Middletown chapter of the Miami University Alumni Association is hoping the university’s hockey coach can bring excitement and an enthusiastic crowd to its dinner.

Enrico Blasi - who just completed the 2011-2012 season, his 13th with the RedHawks - will be the keynote speaker at the dinner that raises money for local college scholarships and book fee assistance.

Jay Cohen, president of the Middletown chapter, said he hopes Blasi addresses the team’s “Brotherhood” philosophy, which he developed at Miami. He called Blasi arguably the coach who has done the most to expose Miami University athletics on a national stage.

During his career, Blasi has received four Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Coach of the Year awards along with the 2006 Spencer Penrose National Coach of the Year and 2010 College Hockey News and College Hockey 247.com National Coach of the Year honors.

He has led his teams to two Frozen Four appearances becoming the National Runner-Up in 2009. His RedHawk teams have been CCHA season champions two times and in 2011 won the CCHA tournament championship Mason Cup. In the past six years, his teams have a winning percentage of .694.

Blasi played his collegiate hockey at Miami from 1990 to 1994. From 1996 through 1999, he was an assistant coach at the University of Denver. He became the youngest Division 1 hockey head coach in the fall of 1999, when he accepted the position at Miami. Blasi, whose goal it is to win a national championship, has an extended contract through the 2016-2017 season with Miami.
