Miami University bookstore unveils upper floor renovations

OXFORD — Modern features and expanded services will be unveiled Monday, Jan. 31, when the upper floor of the Miami University Bookstore re-opens, the university announced in a news release.

The renovated store includes light wood fixtures and more natural light, a wider selection of Miami RedHawk spirit wear, gifts, best sellers and other leisure books. In addition, a coffee bar and comfortable seating have been added.

“It is truly a Miami store – no question —as Miami products take center stage,” said Cathy Pierce, senior director for administrative and human services at housing, dining, recreation and business services. “It will be a hub for students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and other guests to shop for anything Miami.”

To celebrate the re-opening, a 20-percent sale on clothing and gifts on the upper floor will take place during the week of Jan. 31 and culminate in a drawing for an iPad at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4.

Store hours are 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays; noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays; closed on Sundays.

Construction is beginning on the ground floor for renovations scheduled for completion in late April. Plans include a prominent location for computers and other electronics, including an Apple store-within-a-store.

A trendy art and architecture section and flexible merchandising space in the textbook section are also in the works, Pierce said.

During the construction process, the lower level of the bookstore, including the information desk, will relocate to the Indian Study Room on Friday, Feb. 4, so students may continue to purchase textbooks throughout the semester.
