Miamisburg set to make election history with first female mayor

Only one candidate’s name will appear on the ballot this fall for Miamisburg mayor, virtually assuring that the city will elect a woman to that position for the first time.

Miamisburg City Councilwoman Michelle Collins was the only candidate to file to replace longtime Mayor Dick Church Jr., who is retiring, according to the Montgomery County Board of Elections.

Miamisburg, which celebrated its bicentennial last year, has never elected a female mayor, according to the city.

Petitions filed by Collins, a first-term member of city council, were certified last month, board of elections records show.

Collins, 52, was elected to an at-large seat in 2015, finishing third among four candidates – including then-incumbent Democrat Charlie Case – in a race for three seats.

A real estate broker, she is a graduate of Miamisburg High School.
