Career fair for veterans offered Friday

Military veterans are invited to attend a free career fair to learn about career opportunities on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Goodwill Easters Seals Miami Valley, 660 S. Main St., Dayton.

The Veterans & Employers Connection, a community partnership with GESMV, is sponsoring the event along with Kroger.

Attendees are encouraged to talk with representatives from more than 25 companies committed to helping veterans and their employment needs. Participating companies include Kroger, I Supply Company, Lowe’s, Reynolds & Reynolds, Crown Equipment, Garber Electrical Contractors and Dayton Power & Light. STAFF REPORT

Fishing derby set for Deer Meadow Park

The city’s 50th anniversary fishing derby is scheduled for July 31 at Deer Meadow Park.

The event for those ages 15 years and older will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the park, located at 4321 Pinnacle Road. Prizes will be awarded for the largest bass, largest bluegill, largest crappie, largest catfish and most unusual.

School supply drive set for July 26

HOPE4RIVERSIDE has scheduled a school supply drive from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 26.

The two drop-off locations are the Riverside Fire Department on Harshman Road and the fire house on Spinning Road.

Items needed include backpacks, reams of paper, glue sticks, folders, binders, pencils, pens, index cards and notebooks.

German club hosting cornhole tournament

The Dayton Liederkranz Turner is hosting a cornhole tournament from 6 p.m. to dark on Saturday, July 18, 1400 E. Fifth St.

The Oakwood Farmers Market will be open at 22 Orchard Drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through Sept. 26.

Tasting event scheduled at senior center

An oil and balsamic tasting will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, at the Lathrem Senior Center, 2900 Glengarry Drive.

Participants must be 16 years or older. The Olive Tree of Dayton will teach participants about different flavors infused in olive oils and balsamics. Each person will leave with a sample of their favorite balsamic.

The cost is $20 for senior center members, $25 for residents and $30 for nonresidents.
