Treasurer’s office open Saturday

With property taxes due on July 17, the Montgomery County Treasurer’s office will be have special office hours from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. The office is on the second floor of the Montgomery County Administration Building at 451 W. Third St. in Dayton.

Taxpayers can pay their property tax bills with cash, check, or a debit or credit card at the office.

A payment sent by mail is considered paid on time as long as it is postmarked on or before the due date of Friday, July 17. Payments can be made online at www.mctreas.org. Online payments are considered paid on time if the payment process is completed by 11:59 p.m. on July 17.

Regular business hours for the treasurer’s office are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

KETTERING

Applications to leadership academy due Friday

The deadline for submitting applications for the Kettering Leadership Academy is Friday. This nine-month program is designed for citizens to learn about community life through presentations, discussions and direct experience. The goal is for graduates to provide community leadership by becoming board members for local non-profit organizations, participating in community initiatives and serving as ambassadors for the city of Kettering.

Topics include public safety, city government, schools, community diversity, health care, business, history and volunteering. Class members will also participate in a class project and attend various board meetings.

The class, which starts in September, requires a commitment to seven full-day sessions, plus a two-day retreat over a nine-month period.

Name library’s new mascot, sidekick

The Dayton Metro Library is asking the public to name their new mascot and sidekick.

The public can vote on the names online at www.daytonmetrolibrary.org/mascot or in person at all Dayton Metro Library locations through July 15.

Winning names will be announced when the mascots are revealed Aug. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Party in the Park, a free community event that ends the library’s Summer challenge in Cooper Park.

Tickets available for Kiser alumni festival

Kiser High School’s Alumni Annual Heritage Day Festival— which includes a fish fry — will be held at 5 p.m., Saturday, July 18, at the Elks Lodge #58, 2801 Old Troy Pike. Cost is $12 in advance or $15 at the door.

Soda and draft beer will be furnished and other alcoholic beverages may be purchased at the Elks bar. There will be a $500 raffle drawing; all profits will benefit the Kiser High School scholarship plan.

Honorees this year are band members, cheerleaders, majorettes and Pantherettes.

Super Service Saturday set for July 18

Super Service Saturday will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 18, and is free for Washington Twp. and Centerville residents.

Document shredding will be available at the Public Works Garage, 8190 McEwen Road. Up to 12 grocery-size bags of credit cards, CDs, paper, etc., will be accepted. The Washington Twp. Sheriff’s Department will have information about identity theft.

Child safety seat checks will also be available, but requires an appointment. The checks will be conducted at Fire Station 45, 8328 McEwen Road.

Prescription drugs can also be dropped off at Fire Station 45. All medications, and needles in an approved Sharps container, will be accepted. No illegal substances will be taken. STAFF REPORT
