Moonlight Security to take over Dayton court detail

DAYTON – The City Commission on Wednesday approved a $300,000 one-year contract with Moonlight Security, Inc. to take over security detail and offender transport services for the Municipal Court.

The city currently assigns seven police officers and a sergeant to the court detail.

City Manager Tim Riordan said that by using mostly retired police officers and sheriff’s deputies under the direction of Moonlight, “it will cost us significantly less to run that court security detail.”

The sergeant position will be retained, but the move will free up seven Dayton police officers to return to regular patrols at a time when the department is short staffed.

After a training period, the shift will occur by the end of January.
