Traffic on Ohio 122 approaching the closure from the east will be routed to southbound Ohio 123 to west on Greentree Road to north on Ohio 741, said Sharon Smigielski, a spokeswoman for ODOT who added the project is on schedule and should be completed in the fall of 2013.
Traffic approaching from the west will be routed to north on Ohio 741 to east on Ohio 73 to south on Ohio 48, she said. In addition, a section of Ohio 122 just east of its intersection with Ohio 123 south will undergo part-width construction, requiring one lane of alternating traffic maintained by a traffic signal, she said.
Arrow boards and/or signs will be in place prior to the work zone to alert motorists of the upcoming road closure, she said.
She said to help ensure the safety of the construction workers and the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.
Eventually, she said, three traffic signals will be erected and timed in the area to enhance safety.
The road project is expected to cost $8.2 million, according to ODOT. When completed, it should eliminate some of the dangers for motorists traveling from Middletown, Springboro, Lebanon and Waynesville, ODOT said.
Already the state has shifted, about 1,200 feet east, the section of Ohio 123 running past the former location of Mom’s, a popular restaurant.
