A car crashing into a pole on Munger Road left over 1,800 Dayton Power & Light customers in the dark for around 6 hours in the area northeast of the Dayton mall, according to the DP&L outage map.

In total, 1,818 customers were reported without power in Montgomery County in a pair of overlapping outages.

The first outage affected 119 customers and was reported at 12:12 a.m., with an estimated restoration time of 7 a.m. The second was reported much later at 5:36 a.m., affecting 1,699 people, but with the same estimated restoration time.

Both were restored at about 6 a.m., DP&L officials said. The reason that two outages were reported on top of each other was a result of workers working to isolate the outage on either side of the downed pole.

We were told previously by DP&L officials that replacing a broken pole can take around 8 hours, but last night’s broken pole was replaced in 6.

“They did a good job, especially considering the weather,” officials said of tonight’s repair.

Given that the weather this morning is expected to be wet, DP&L also urged people to drive carefully.
