MTV to document life of pro skateboarder Dyrdek in Kettering

KETTERING — MTV will be sending a three-person crew to the city this week to produce a documentary on pro skateboarder and Kettering native Rob Dyrdek, City Manager Mark Schwieterman told the city council Tuesday night, July 28.

Dyrdek, 35, who is not expected to be here, is currently starring in the cable network’s reality show “Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory.”

Prior to the show, he starred in the reality series “Rob & Big.”

“The crew will be at the Skate Plaza on Thursday morning, interviewing the mayor,” Schwieterman said, referring to Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Foundation Skate Plaza in Indian Riffle Park, 2801 E. Stroop Road.

“The crew is also planning on interviewing Rob’s parents. As well as interviews at the local skate shop. I’m assuming it’s that one at the corner of Wilmington and Stroop — One Love Skate Shop.”

The taping is expected to take place Thursday and Friday, Schwieterman said.

No other details about the production were available late Tuesday.

Dyrdek is also starring in the film Street Dreams, which he wrote, produced and financed.

The movie, which opens in New York, California and other select locations on June 12, draws attention to the reality of street skating and police brutality.
