Suspects in Piqua pub shooting appear in court today

UPDATE @ 11:20 a.m. (Aug. 16)

A second suspect in this shooting is in custody in Miami County.

Joshua Stannard, 26, of Fairborn, was arraigned Wednesday morning in Miami County Municipal Court on charges of discharge of firearm inside a building, possession of firearm in liquor establishment, inducing panic, carrying concealed weapon, and possession of weapon while under the influence.

Stannard entered a plea of not guilty.

Eduardo Fitch had a new charge of possession of weapon while under the influence filed against him today in Miami County court. He was arraigned and his bond increased to $124,000.

UPDATE @ 5:46 p.m. (Aug. 15)

A man already in Mulligan's Pub when police said Eduardo Fitch arrived and fired a handgun into the air at the business has turned himself in and surrendered the handgun he discharged after Fitch had done so, Piqua Police Chief Bruce Jamison said.

Joshua Stannard, 26, of Fairborn, turned himself in about an hour after surveillance photos of the incident were released publicly by police.

Stannard remains in the Miami County Jail on a warrant out of Colorado for a weapons violation. More charges are pending, Jamison said in prepared statement.

Three subjects originally were sought as suspects in criminal activity based on eyewitnesses and three weapons were believed to be involved. The investigation reveals that only two suspects engaged in criminal activity, the chief said in the statement and both are now in jail.

Both weapons fired in downtown Piqua late Thursday night have been recovered.

UPDATE @ 10 a.m.:

Eduardo Fitch was arraigned in Miami County Municipal Court, where his bond was set at $123,000.

Police said the second person detained was released following additional investigation.

One person does still remain on the loose who is considered a suspect in the case, investigators said.

UPDATE @ 7:02 a.m.: 

Eduardo A. Fitch, 42, was arrested about 5:33 a.m. Friday and is being detained at the Miami County Jail, according to online jail records.

Fitch is facing multiple charges that include carrying a concealed weapon, inducing panic, aggravated menacing and discharging a firearm into a habitation.

Arraignment has been scheduled for today.

UPDATE @ 4:49 a.m.: 

Piqua police are still searching for a third suspect after shots were fired inside Mulligan’s Pub, in the 100 block of High Street, late Thursday night.

Two suspects were taken into custody after 1:40 a.m. after police located one of the suspect’s cars in the 300 block of East High Street, according to police.

Police are reviewing surveillance video from the pub and another bar the suspects may have entered Thursday night, according to police.

UPDATE @ 4:21 a.m.:

Two men accused of displaying handguns inside Mulligan's Pub on High Street on Thursday night have been taken into custody, according to Piqua police.

Police reported one of the suspects fired shots into the air inside the pub.

Officers were initially dispatched to the pub about 11 p.m. after receiving a report of an person trying to fight the bartender, according to Piqua police.

Police report the bartender was attempted to remove two men from the pub when they showed their handguns.

One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the bartender, and fired shots into the air, said Piqua Police Deputy Chief Tom Steiner.

Police report a third man, who was not with the two suspects, also fired shots.

All three men left the area, according to police.

Police later received reports of additional gunfire in the 300 block of East North Street.

Ohio State Highway Patrol, who brought a K-9 unit, and Covington officers assisted Piqua police.

Around 1:40 a.m., police located a vehicle believed used by the suspects in the 300 block of East North Street, and arrested the two men. Piqua officers located two of the suspects in a home nearby.

The incident is still under investigation and police are working to determine what charges will be filed.

INITIAL REPORT (Aug. 11)

Piqua police and Miami County sheriff’s deputies have taken two people into custody in the North Street area.

According to reports, suspects from an earlier shooting were in a house in the 300 block of North Street. Around 2:20 a.m., two people reportedly came out of the house and were taken into custody.

Officials then cleared the house. A baby or small child was reportedly upstairs during the incident.

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation.
