Crews responded to the 4800 block of Vanguard Avenue at 5:37 a.m. on a reported kitchen fire.

The house was “well on its way to being fully involved,” when first responders arrived on the scene, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The house is “pretty much” a total loss, said Gregory Wilcox, battalion chief at Jefferson Twp. Fire Department.

The house was damaged from the front of the living room, all the way through the kitchen and out back, he said.

Preliminary investigations show the fire started in an oven in the kitchen, according to the sheriff’s office. However, the fire remains under investigation.
