TOLEDO, Ohio —The head of the NAACP is campaigning against a new law in Ohio that limits the bargaining power of public unions.

Benjamin Jealous, President of the NAACP, went knocking door-to-door in Toledo on Saturday urging voters to repeal the law, known as Issue 2,  in next week's election. He also held a gathering at a Teamsters hall with about 100 opponents of the law.

Jealous says that blacks make up a larger percentage of Ohio's public workforce than the general population and would be disproporionately affected by Issue 2. Jelaous has also called the new effort to suppress the voice of unions "the most massive attack on basic, fundamental rights" of the past 100 years.

The law's supporters argue that it will help local governments get rid of unsustainable labor contracts and restore jobs to the the state.
