New Belmont High School opens, district makeover almost complete

DAYTON, Ohio -- Dayton Public Schools showed off the last of the district's six new high school buildings Sunday, the new Belmont High School on Wayne Avenue.

The staff and students in grades 7-12 moved into the new Belmont last week,

This is the 25th of 26 new schools to open as part of the district's $627 million construction project.

The last school, Wright Brothers PreK-8, will open Jan. 4.

The state is paying about 60 percent of the costs, with local funds coming from a $245 million bond issue passed by voters in 2002.

The old Belmont, opened in the mid-1950s about a quarter-mile southeast of the new school, will be demolished.
