HAMILTON — In good times and bad, one tradition has continued around this time of year since 1966.

The Liberty Home German Society will host Hamilton’s 44th Oktoberfest starting at 6 p.m. today, Sept. 4, until Sunday evening.

To help those cutting back on spending because of the recession, the admission was reduced from $3 to $2 and various food costs were reduced, said Klaus Giese, event chairman.

A canned good donated for One Way Farm also will get you entered into a $25 gas giveaway, Giese said.

As always, rides and games will be available for children. Giese said he’s added new offerings, including souvenirs, beer steins, cookbooks and novelties.

Spaten, Warsteiner and Warsteiner’s King Ludwig beer will be served.

New libations offered this year will be Jagermeister and its various shot concoctions and the Jager Girls will be on hand Saturday evening, Giese said.

Former chairman Karl Giessler will emcee the event and will describe the history of the event’s first beer keg, which he helped restore after it was found last year.
