LIBERTY TWP. — A local family is looking to bring back the true meaning of Christmas with their annual holiday display.

The Niederman Family Farm is hosting its 11th annual Christmas Walk beginning Nov. 25, featuring a life-size nativity scene, live entertainment and a light display to get visitors in the holiday spirit.

The event got its start 13 years ago when the Niederman family had the idea to put on a Christian Christmas display for the surrounding community, said Janet Niederman, one of the farm’s co-owners.

The family purchased a nativity scene through an auction in eastern Ohio, refurbished the figures, and then began hosting the event, Niederman said.

“It took a couple of years to get everything together,” Niederman said.

The event’s walking path features the nativity scene and various Biblical scenes portraying the story of Christmas, illuminated by an extensive light display, Niederman said.

“We probably have close to a million lights,” Niederman said. “We will also have 50 speakers throughout the farm playing Christmas music.”

In addition to the walking path, the event features hundreds of decorations, some of the farm’s animals and live entertainment in the farm’s barn — including performances from local acts such as the West Chester Symphony, the Silver Strings Orchestra and the Liberty Singers. Free refreshments such as cookies and hot chocolate will also be available to visitors, Niederman said.

The event is free to the public, but donations to defray the cost of the display will be accepted, Niederman said.

“There is a lot of expenses for a display of this type,” Niederman said.

The event and its activities add up to the family’s goal of portraying the true meaning of Christmas to visitors, Niederman said.

“People have been very receptive to it,” Niederman said. “That’s what we want — the meaning of Christmas in our display. Hopefully we glorify God and share that belief with others.”
