Noon Optimists name top volunteers

Kelly Eggers and Bill DeFries of the Centerville Noon Optimist Club were named Outstanding Community Volunteers by the Presidents Club of Dayton on May 20 at the annual Outstanding Service Club/Community Members’ Breakfast.

Eggers has been a member of the Centerville Noon Optimist Club since 2001, serves as a vice president on the board of directors and is president elect for 2011-12.

Eggers, who was recently chosen as the club’s Optimist of the Year, is involved in the club’s golf outing, Avenue of Flags, and new club building.

She is vice president of Remodeling Designs.

DeFries joined Centerville Noon Optimists in 2004 and is the owner of two Beef O’Brady’s restaurants, located in Centerville and Beavercreek.

DeFries is noted for being generous with his time at community functions and is known as a supporter of many youth activities.

Most recently, DeFries hosted a Centerville Noon Optimist event in connection with Dayton Children’s Medical Center to kick off the club’s golf outing scheduled for July 15.

The Centerville Noon Optimist Club has been supporting the youth of Centerville and Washington Twp. since its founding in 1968.

Programs and service projects that the club supports include the upcoming Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 5; Tri-Star Basketball; Safety on Wheels Bike Rodeo; Avenue of Flags, 4th of July Americana 5K Run; and Tri-Star Soccer.

Earlier in May, the Centerville Noon Optimist Club honored Records/Communication Specialist Aaron Nicely of the Centerville Police Department and Deputy Matt Wright of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department with the John Kalaman Award.

These awards are named in honor of Officer John Kalaman, who was killed in the line of duty in 1998.

Both Nicley and Wright were recognized for unselfishly giving of themselves in service to others.

The Centerville Noon Optimist Club has been supporting the Respect for Law Award since its founding in 1968.

The Centerville Noon Optimist Club is reportedly the largest Optimist Club in Ohio.
