Nuisance hotel in Harrison Twp. to meet wrecking ball

A problem hotel at 3636 N. Dixie Drive that’s gone by many names — including the North Plaza Inn, which once had nearly 2,000 sheriff’s dispatch calls in a span of two-and-a-half years — will be torn down beginning Tuesday.

Harrison Twp. was able get the blighted property declared a nuisance by the courts through emergency action last year and shuttered, but then had to find the funds to bring it down.

This week, Montgomery County commissioners approved an additional $61,000 to allow the $290,845 demolition of the property, also a former La Quinta Inn, to proceed. Harrison Twp. provided half the funds.

The property’s tax liens are owned by Tax Ease Ohio, LLC. Although there are no immediate plans for redevelopment of the property, it will be included as a priority a revitalization plan focused on the North Dixie corridor, according to a Harrison Twp. news release.

Officials plan to gather at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the building to mark the beginning of the demolition.
