OXFORD — Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, a Miami University graduate, will return to Oxford Wednesday, Aug. 26, on the campaign trail for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.
Brunner will speak at 7 p.m. at the LCNB Bank Building, 30 Park Place West.
Brunner is seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat being vacated by Republican George Voinovich. Her visit follows another by Ohio Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher, another Democrat seeking the Senate seat.
Brunner’s July fundraising report showed she is trailing far behind Fisher in raising money. And the two combined pale in comparison to the war chest assembled by Republican Rob Portman.
Brunner’s Oxford visit is sponsored by the Miami University College Democrats and the Oxford-based Butler County Progressive Political Action Committee. It is co-sponsored by other local Democratic groups.
Brunner has served as Ohio secretary of state since 2006, and has also served as a judge in Franklin County. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from MU.
“I was the first in my family to complete my college degree, and that degree opened doors for me that were not open to my parents,” Brunner said in a prepared statement about the visit. “The tradition of excellence at Miami and Ohio’s other fine state and private higher education institutions propels students to excel in the global classroom and economy as they compete for 21st century jobs.”
