Online classes available for potential homebuyers

HAMILTON — Neighborhood Housing Services recently announced the launch of an online homebuyer education program.

Nine NeighborWorks organizations from across the state are offering eHome America, an online course, www.ehomeamerica.org, on the homebuying process and homeownership responsibilities.

Lorie Batdorf, Executive Director of Neighborhood Housing Services of Hamilton, said education is the key to success in home ownership.

"Our classes help students learn everything they need to know about the home buying process – from how much house they can afford to working with real estate professionals to selecting the right mortgage," Batdorf said. "Our students graduate as fully-informed consumers who understand the rights and responsibilities of homeownership.”

Proper homebuyer education has been shown to dramatically reduce foreclosure rates, especially among low- and moderate-income families, according to a recent study by NeighborWorks America.

Cost for the course is $49, however a promotional coupon code is available. When you visit the Web site, ehomeamerica.org, type in the word “House,” (case sensitive) when prompted and it knocks $14 off the cost.

Successful completion of the course is required to qualify for down payment assistance programs and other federally-backed home loans.
