Carlisle School District is also reporting that the power outages knocked out their phone system and administrators were forced to use their cell phones to handle the situation.
UPDATE 12:20 p.m.
Carlisle Schools Superintendent Larry Hook thanked staff for working quickly to handle the situation this morning when the district’s buildings lost power just before 9 a.m.
The district was immediately in contact with Duke Energy, he said, but there were concerns that if power wasn’t restored by about 10 a.m. the schools would lose their ability to serve lunch. The buildings’ bathrooms also need power to pull well water, Hooks said.

Power came back on about 11 a.m. when high school students had been dismissed and they were getting ready to dismiss younger students. They proceeded with dismissal because there was no way at that point to serve food on time and the bathrooms needed to be checked for loss of pressure.
Hook said the school buildings should be operating normally Saturday for planned activities.
UPDATE 11:06 a.m.
The school district has posted a notice on its website that schools will close early today because of a district-wide electrical power outage.
- Carlisle High School & Chamberlain Middle School were released at 10:25 a.m.
- Alden Brown Elementary School & Grigsby Intermediate School will be release at 11:30 a.m.
The message on the school district website indicates, “parents are welcome to sign their children out at any time,” and the district phone lines are inoperable because of the outage.
We’ve checked with Duke Energy and are working to learn when power will be restored to the area.
UPDATE @ 10:36 a.m.
A parent reports Carlisle schools are cancelling classes for the remainder of the day.
The middle school and high school are releasing students at 10:30 a.m. and kindergarten through fifth grade students will be released at 11:30 a.m. today.
Another parent has reported the Carlisle School District sent him a text message stating the entire school district is dismissing students early due to the power outage.
We have called Carlisle Local School District and left messages for the superintendent.

EARLIER REPORT
An estimated 1,320 people are with out power in Warren County, according to the Duke Energy website on Friday.
We are working to learn if or how this will impact schools in the area.
Duke Energy reports the power is expected to be back on by 11 a.m. today.
