CELINA, Ohio -- The National Weather Service says it looks like two tornadoes hit parts of Mercer and Auglaize Counties Tuesday night.
A NWS survey revealed damage consistent with wind speeds of up to 115 mph, a low end EF-2 tornado. The path of the damage was about 4 miles long and 30 yards wide.
No one was injured.
The NWS said an EF-0 tornado hit Auglaize County. The second twister reached speeds of about 80 mph. The reach of this tornado was about 200 feet by 50 yards, the NWS report said.
NWS officials said the tornado touched down in a route from Celina to St. Marys along Route 33.
The storms caused major damage to homes and businesses, including an Aldi grocery store. A Menards home improvement store also was damaged.
Cops say at least six homes were considerably damaged in the storm.
The National Weather Service says at least five tornadoes were part of the storms that battered Ohio.
The weather service said early Thursday that the strongest of the confirmed tornadoes hit the city of Heath in central Ohio's Licking County with estimated winds of up to 120 mph. Trees 2 feet in diameter were snapped off, and part of the metal roof was peeled away atop a small car rental company building.
Another tornado about 5 miles away destroyed a mobile home with winds clocked at up to 109 mph.
