DAYTON, Ohio -- Prosecutors kicked off their case in the third trial of China Arnold with a pair of forensic pathologists who testified that Arnold's baby died in a microwave oven.
Lou Grieco of the Dayton Daily News reports Russell Uptegrove, the Montgomery County Coroner's Office pathologist who performed the autopsy on Paris Talley, said the 28-day-old baby died after her temperature reached 107 to 108 degrees Fahrenheit.
Uptegrove said the baby was in the microwave at least two minutes.
The second witness, Dr. Marcella Fierro, retired chief medical examiner for Virginia, handled the case of the only other baby known to be killed in a microwave: Joseph Lewis Martinez, who was 5 weeks old when he was killed in 1999.
Fierro compared the burn patterns, which she said were different because the microwaves' heating elements were in different places.
Fierro agreed with Uptegrove's finding that all other sources of burns could be ruled out,
Arnold is charged with aggravated murder. If convicted, she could face the death penalty.
