Peacock spotted at rest stop, eludes police again

One of the elusive peacocks that has been creating a traffic hazard in the area for a month was spotted about 9 a.m. Thursday, May 13 near Monroe, but true to form, it got away, according to Ohio highway patrol dispatchers.

A trooper saw the bird behind the rest stop on southbound Interstate 75 near the Monroe exit but they were unable to catch it.

Last week Fairfield Twp. police issued an alert about a pair of peacocks creating a commotion in the township. Police officers and a city of Fairfield animal control officer searched in vain for the pair.

The peacocks were first spotted the morning of April 5 crossing at Bypass Ohio 4 and Hamilton-Mason Road. During the next few weeks, about a dozen calls were made about the birds darting into traffic.

The chief said there have been two reports of possible dead peacocks on area roadways.
