The Piqua bike path bridge, over the Great Miami River near Main Street, caught fire again at about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Piqua Fire Chief Mike Rindler said flames apparently started on the old railroad tressels under the bridge, then caught the wooden structure from below, making the fire harder to put out.
Fire crews were still on the scene at 4:50 p.m. Rindler said the heavy damage will mean that the bridge will be closed for some time for repairs.
Rindler said the same bridge has caught fire three to four times before.
"There has been some suspicion of smoking materials in the past, but we would love any calls with information about what could have possibly started this fire," said Rindler. Anyone with information should call the fire department at (937) 778-2015.
