City Manager Gary Huff confirmed late Thursday that he’s leaving Piqua to become the new city manager in Ashland, Ky.

Huff, 64, was hired by the city commission Thursday to a 36-month contract with initial pay of $140,000, according to an article in the local newspaper, The Daily Independent.

He has been with the city of Piqua since October 2011 and previously worked as a manager in communities including Fishers, Ind.; Blacksburg, Va.; and Leesburg, Va. Huff is a native of Fort Gay, W.Va., and graduate of Marshall University and Virginia Tech.

The city of Ashland has around 21,000 people.

“The Ashland job was an opportunity to go home after all these years to be near family and long-time friends. It is the only job that could have pulled me away from Piqua,” Huff said Friday.

“My time in Piqua has been wonderful. I had really planned on finishing out my career here, but this unique opportunity came along to go back to the Tri-State area.”

Huff said the Piqua City Commission and staff have been “great” to work with, adding “I have no doubt that the city government will not miss a beat with my absence. The citizens of Piqua have been the most giving of anywhere I’ve been, and I wish nothing but success in the future. For me, Piqua will always be a special place.”
