Police asking for help in locating missing woman

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Police Department is asking for the community’s help in locating a missing 22-year-old woman.

Katelyn Markham’s family filed a report Sunday after she didn’t report for work at David’s Bridal in the Tri-County Mall, and didn’t answer calls and text messages from her fiance, John Carter.

Carter’s mother, Karyn Winkler, said the family is bewildered at the disappearance of Markham. The townhouse she lived in off Dorshire Drive in Fairfield was “completely untouched,” Winkler said.

“It’s just as if she got up and walked away,” she said. Markham’s purse, keys and car are still at the townhouse, she said.

Today , Markham will celebrate her 22 birthday and also her one-year anniversary of being engaged. Carter proposed on Markham’s 21 birthday, Winkler said.

The couple has been together six years, and after Markham finished school at the Art Institute of Cincinnati this September, they were planning on moving to Colorado. They were planning to marry in two years, after Carter turned 25, Winkler said.

“They were both just really excited about it,” she said.

As the family prays for Markham’s safe return, Fairfield police have said there’s no evidence of foul play, and a reasonable explanation for her disappearance hasn’t been found. Police aren’t releasing any further information.

There’s no sign that anything happened in the apartment, Winkler said. The only thing out of place was her small mixed-breed dog, which was locked in her bedroom.

“She has never gone anywhere without people knowing where she is,” she said. “This is just so out of character.”

Police told Winkler the cell phone was turned off around 12:45 a.m. Sunday, but so far, it has not been located. The GPS device on the phone has also been turned off.

“We just want her home. We have no clue what happened. We’re just sick. This is the most horrible thing,” Winkler said.

Those with information are asked to call Fairfield police at (513) 639-7820.
