Police: Death in Fairfield Twp. fatal fire appears to be accidental

The death of a man who was found after firefighters extinguished a Saturday afternoon fire in Fairfield Twp. appears accidental, according to township police.

“It appears to be accidental, nothing out of the ordinary discovered in the autopsy,” said Fairfield Twp. Sgt. Jamie Mays. “There’s nothing that appears to be suspicious.”

FIRST REPORT: Investigators determining cause of Fairfield Twp. fire

The Butler County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy of the man, whose name has not yet been released. Coroner’s office spokesman Martin Schneider told the Journal-News office investigators are still working to positively identify the person and will release his name once family has been notified.

Firefighters were dispatched a one-story house in the 2000 block of Parrish Avenue at 1:40 p.m. Saturday. They found fire coming from the front window and porch, said Fairfield Twp. fire Chief Timothy Thomas.

It took firefighters about 10 minutes to knock down the fire, and they found the man’s body inside, he said.

Hamilton, West Chester Twp. and Liberty Twp. fire crews assisted in extinguishing the fire. One firefighter was taken to an area hospital for heat exhaustion, Thomas said.

The chief said the fire is being investigated by the Butler County Fire Investigation Team, State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Fairfield Twp. Police Department.
