Charges of murder, assault approved in Dayton homicide on Huffman Ave.

UPDATE @ 4:52 p.m. (Feb. 23):  Charges of murder, felonious assault  and aggravated drug possession have been approved against Justin Walker Larrison in the homicide on Huffman Avenue.

There are two counts each on the murder and assault charges, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

UPDATE @ 9 a.m. (Feb. 22):

The victim of a fatal shooting that happened Tuesday evening in the 1200 block of Huffman Avenue has been identified.

The victim was 48-year-old Christopher Phillips, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

The suspected shooter, 28-year-old Justin Walker Larrison, was tracked down and arrested at a home on Frank Street near the University of Dayton campus and Miami Valley Hospital.

Larrison is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of murder.

UPDATE @ 12:45 a.m. (Feb. 22): 

A man wanted on suspicion of murder has been taken into custody at a house on Frank Street, Dayton police confirmed.

Lt. Mark Ponichtera said homicide detectives located and arrested 28-year-old Justin Walker Larrison at the home in the 100 block of Frank Street shortly after midnight.

Ponichtera said Larrison is in the process of being questioned by detectives in the fatal shooting that occurred on Huffman Avenue Tuesday evening.

Other occupants inside the house were briefly detained, but are not expected to be arrested or charged. Ponichtera said the house where Larrison was located was not his residence, and it was unknown the connection he has with the homeowner.

The police activity at the home, located near the campuses of the University of Dayton and Miami Valley Hospital, poised no threat to either campus, Ponichtera said.

UPDATE @ 8:22 p.m. (Feb. 21):

Dayton police have issued a broadcast for Justin Walter Larrison, 28, who is wanted on a charge of murder in the Huffman Avenue shooting.

Larrison is to be considered armed and dangerous, according to the broadcast via police scanner. Larrison was last seen on foot, leaving the residence in the 1200 block of Huffman Avenue, according to police.

UPDATE @ 6:43 p.m. (Feb. 21):

A homicide investigation is underway after a man was shot to death during an apparent argument over money that occurred in the rooming house on Huffman Avenue, Dayton Lt. Mark Ponichtera said.

A man in his late 30s was shot to death by another male, the lieutenant said.

The preliminary investigation suggests the two men apparently argued about money and the suspect pulled a handgun.

“We’re relatively certain who we’re looking for, but we’re not prepared to release that information now,” Ponichtera said.

Police are interviewing witnesses, he said.

Ponichtera said police have been dispatched to the address in the past on reports not connected to what occurred there today.

FIRST REPORT

Police are investigating a shooting at a residence in the 1200 block of Huffman Avenue in Dayton.

The shooting was called in to police about 5:37 p.m.

There are several police cruisers on scene and crime scene tape has been put up around the residence.
