Man hospitalized after suffering serious burn injuries near Dayton gas station

UPDATE @ 9:15 a.m.: 

A man was taken to a Dayton hospital after suffering serious burn injuries near a gas station on West Third Street Friday morning.

Firefighters were initially dispatched on reports of a small grass fire near the intersection of West Third Street and North James H. McGee Boulevard around 6:45 a.m.

Medics were requested shortly after firefighters arrived on scene when they located a man who was burned.

He was transported to an area hospital for treatment but investigators did not release his condition.

Employees at the All in One convenience store said the victim was in the store shortly before the fire and bought a gallon of gas at the fuel pumps.

Shortly after the man pumped the gas into a plastic container, another customer ran into the store and reported the man was on fire, witnesses said.

Another employee grabbed a fire extinguisher and helped put the fire out, according to witnesses.

Police and arson investigators responded for the investigation but did not provide an update.

A man has been taken to an area hospital after he was found suffering from burns near the intersection of West Third Street and James H. McGee Boulevard Friday morning, according to investigators.

The condition of the victim was not immediately available.

Witnesses tell our crew the man was on fire and running near the All in One gas station when an employee of the business used a fire extinguisher and put the fire out.

Police have placed crime scene tape up around the scene and have started an investigation.

Firefighters were first called to the area on reports of a small grass fire around 6:45 a.m., according to dispatch records.

FIRST REPORT

Medics have been requested for a person found with burn injuries near a Dollar General location on West Third Street in Dayton Friday morning.

Firefighters were first dispatched to the area of West Third Street and North James H. McGee Boulevard around 6:45 a.m. on initial reports of a small grass fire, according to dispatch records.

Shortly after locating the fire, crews reported they found a burn victim and requested medics to the scene.

The condition of the victim was not immediately known.

Police and an arson investigator have been requested to investigate and crime scene tape has been placed around the scene.
