Police: Rape victim says boyfriend mad about her smoking while pregnant

A 30-year-old man previously convicted of stabbing a neighbor in Dayton is charged with rape and abduction of his pregnant girlfriend at their Fairborn apartment.

Jerad D. Redic was indicted by a grand jury May 11 on charges of rape, felonious assault and abduction, according to Greene County court records.

Redic pleaded not guilty earlier this month to the charges in Judge Michael Buckwalter’s courtroom, according to court records.

The defendant was arrested May 4 by Fairborn police at an apartment he and his girlfriend shared, according to the statement of facts on file with the Fairborn Municipal Court.

Redic allegedly attacked and strangled his girlfriend during an altercation when the defendant became angry about her smoking while pregnant, according to the victim’s statement to police.

The victim told police she passed out from being strangled and when she awoke she was on the couch, where her boyfriend “proceeded to have forcible sexual conduct,” according to the statement of facts.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital for a sexual assault examination and there was evidence she was forcibly raped.

Redic is being held in jail on a $450,000 bond.

This is not the first time the defendant has been charged with a violent crime.

In July 2014, Redic was convicted of assault in Dayton and sentenced to three years in prison, plus pay restitution. Police said he stabbed a neighbor in the chest on Pritz Avenue.
