Police say water line insurance letter misleading

MONROE — The Monroe Police Department is warning residents that if they receive a letter about purchasing insurance for a home’s water line, it’s not legitimate.

Police Officer Eric Walton said the department has received a number of complaints from citizens about the letter from HomeServe USA Corp., a home warranty company out of Akron.

He said the letter is misleading residents to believe they must purchase insurance for a “water line service coverage.” The company is not working on behalf of the city and “you do not have to purchase anything,” said Walton.

Walton said he checked with the Better Business Bureau and have found an “alert” for the business and “strongly” recommends anyone who gets a letter file a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
