Police: Woman's death a homicide or drug OD?

The death of a Trotwood woman, whose body was found on an industrial site Tuesday, is being investigated as a homicide or a possible drug overdose.

Tiffany Meek, 31, had been missing since Feb. 16 before her body was found in the 4600 block of Valley Pike in the East Dayton neighborhood.

"It's either (a homicide) or she overdosed and she was dumped there," Dayton Sgt. Dan Mauch said Wednesday. "(Investigators) are working with the coroner's office to see if there is any indication of anything other than an overdose."

An autopsy was performed Wednesday. The Montgomery County Coroner's Office said findings are pending additional toxicology work -- results may take two or three weeks -- and more investigation.

Based on the investigation, it would seem her body was dumped or placed at the location, said Ken Betz, director of the coroner's office.

"Once the investigation is completed we will pursue the cause and manner of death," he said.
Authorities said Meek was lying face down for approximately 24 hours before she was discovered. There were reportedly no obvious signs of trauma to the body.

Meek's co-workers at Grill's Tavern on North Union Road in Stringtown filed a missing persons report with Trotwood police on Monday. She had been missing four days prior to the filing of that report.

Larry Meek lived with his daughter on Grand Avenue in Trotwood. He said the last time he saw her was late Thursday when she woke him to say she was leaving with a friend.

"I said to try and be quiet coming back in," he recalled. "She said, 'Oh, I won't be back in tonight.'

"For her to be gone a day or so is not unusual," he said. "She's a grown woman. But usually she would call," the father said.

Charles Jergens, who found the body near his property, said he saw what he thought was only clothing over an embankment. He said he took a closer look and found a woman lying face down. Police said she was found in high-density brush.

After trying to rouse the person by yelling, Jergens said he presumed she was deceased and called police.
