The Quinnipiac University poll out Thursday represents a big comedown for businessman Herman Cain, the top pick of Ohio GOP voters in a similar poll in late October. The survey began five days before Cain announced he was suspending his bid last week.
Gingrich is now the choice of 36 percent of the state's Republican voters. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is second with 18 percent. No other candidate scored more than 7 percent, including Cain.
The overall survey of 1,437 Ohio voters has a margin of error of 3 percentage points. The margin of error from 500 Republicans surveyed is 4 points.
