To preserve the memory of her and her unique talent, Smith is sponsoring the fifth-annual Kay Smith Memorial Printmakers Show from July 11 through Aug. 1 at the High Street Gallery of the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors in the St. Anne’s Historical District.
Printmakers from a 50-mile radius of the gallery are invited to submit entries.
Early registration is Saturday, July 3, with delivery of artwork from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, July 6. All work must be framed and ready for hanging, none larger than 40 inches, including the frame.
“The traditional printmaking media including, but not limited to relief, intaglio, etching, drypoint, lithograph, monotypes and screen print should be entered for competition,” said exhibit chairwoman, Joanne Van Sossan of Huber Heights. The entry fee is $12 per item, with a limit of three per person. For more information, call Von Sossan at (937) 545-0407.
In addition to her printmaking, the late Kay Smith was a watercolorist and a member of the Brown Baggers, a group of female artists who enjoy painting outdoors and bringing their lunch so they don’t lose the mood.
The Brown Baggers include Nita Leland, Betty Murray, Betty Henderson, Mary Ellen Wilson and Dottie Stimmel.
The printmakers show starts with a reception from 1-5 p.m. July 11.
There will be cash prizes for winners, including a $400 Kay Smith Memorial Award donated by David L. Smith. Other dates for the exhibit are 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from July 11 through Aug. 1.
