Renovations to township fire station complete, park gets upgrade

HANOVER TWP. — The township has unveiled upgrades to its fire station and park.

The fire station was finished in June, which Hanover Twp. trustee Douglas Johnson said was possible thanks to a levy passed by township voters.

“This was the first time we ever asked for and received approval for a levy,” Johnson said.

The new station was out of necessity, Johnson said, after the township had outgrown its old one and had even been using barns and storage areas donated by residents before receiving the upgrade.

“It’s a very, very updated fire station,” Johnson said.

But that’s not the only new renovation in the township.

Johnson said residents complained about the Hanover Township Park because the gravel surface made it difficult, and not as safe, for children to play. Also, the equipment at the park was outdated.

“We were able to get some new playground equipment and put down a rubberized surface,” Johnson said.

A walking path also was completed in the park and over time, Johnson said he hopes to see more equipment installed.

Township supporters made the changes possible, he said.

“We’re very proud of the township,” Johnson said. “The people did it, it means a lot to the township.”
