The woman did not enter the sewer from the parking lot. Fire crews are unsure how she accessed the storm sewer system, Dorsten said.
“What we ended up doing was just cutting around the storm grate to free it up,” he said. “It had recently been paved over.”
The woman was then able to climb out. The water level was about 3 feet deep, the deputy chief said.
The woman was taken to Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek to be checked out.
Julie Klick of Beavercreek was at Lowe’s to go shopping this afternoon. She was among onlookers who were cheering on the firefighters during the rescue operation.
“I got a video of her coming out,” Klick said.
