Treeing Walker coonhound dies after fall from tree in Greene County

A prized treeing Walker coonhound named Minnie Pearl was the dog who fell to its death Monday night in the pursuit of a raccoon, a family member said.

“She came from a highly regarded bloodline, but more importantly she was a loved companion to her family and will be greatly missed,” the family member said.

A dog that chased a raccoon up a tree Monday night fell to its death before it could be rescued.

The dog ran about 60 to 80 feet up a tree sometime around 10:30 p.m. in a wooded area on private property far off Clifton Road.

Xenia Twp. fire crews brought out a ladder truck and set up rescue equipment in attempts to reach the dog that had been stuck in the tree for about two hours.

The dog was some kind of a hunting breed that had been tracking the animal before the incident, a fire official said.

A dog ran about 50 feet up a tree Monday night off Clifton Road.

Xenia Twp. fire crews brought out a ladder truck in an attempt to rescue the dog, whose breed is unknown.

Also unknown is what caused the dog to climb the tree, and incident that was reported around 10:30 p.m.
