River flooding issues across the Miami Valley still a problem after rain

Flooding along the Great Miami River continues to be a problem for many low-lying areas, and though the rain is gone, many rivers remain above flood stage.

News Center 7's James Buechele was at Rice Field, just south of downtown Miamisburg Friday to show how the ball fields were completely under water.

Areas across the Miami Valley are still dealing with flooding issues after inches of rain from this week, including the baseball fields that under feet of water.

Larry Salyer has lived in Miamisburg for 20 years and likes to take photographs and document the flooding after each storm.

“Just to see what it does and how many pictures I keep of the water,” he said. “About three years ago it was over to the field there over the top of the streets.”

The river in Miamisburg will continue to rise nearly 13 feet tonight and won’t fall below flood stage until early Saturday morning.

Salyer says he likes to make sure to keep safety first when it comes to flooded roads.

“I don’t take a chance. If it’s flooded on the streets, bridges, I turn around and go back,” he said.
