Robbers shoot, kill victim’s dog in front of witnesses

Police are looking for two men who robbed a pedestrian Monday night and shot his dog to death as it gave chase.

The victim, whose name was not released, told police he was walking his pit bull at about 8:30 p.m. when two individuals approached him and began to assault him, Trotwood Sgt. Brandon Holbrook said.

The assailants took the man’s pants, wallet and other property and beat him with a loaded handgun, Holbrook said. As they ran off, the man’s dog began to chase them and that’s when one of the assailants shot the dog, Holbrook said.

The assailants got into a vehicle and left. The dog was left lying in the street.

There were several witnesses to the robbery-assault and fatal shooting that occurred in the 5000 block of Rucks Road, the sergeant said, and police are hoping to get help with their investigation.

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call Trotwood police at (937) 854-7203 or (937) 854-7205.
