Schools release early, change football game times, or cancel classes due to heat

Some schools in the region have changed dismissal times, the start of football games and in one case canceled classes because of the heat.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s on Friday, but the Heat Index — what it “feels like” — will be much higher, in the middle 90s, Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini said.

In Dayton, Friday’s Ponitz at Dayton Christian football game will start at 7:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m., Dayton Public Schools announced.

Classes are canceled Friday for students in kindergarten through eighth grades in the Valley View Local School District, which dismissed two hours early Thursday as well.

Greenon Local Schools in Clark County and Preble Shawnee Local Schools in Preble County will dismiss students two hours early on Friday.

In Miami County, Tipp City students at Nevin Coppock and Broadway elementary schools and Troy City Schools will release two hours early Friday.

Sidney City Schools in Shelby County will dismiss two hours early Friday, and there is no afternoon preschool, also due to the heat.
