Scott Masters of Masters & Associates Insurance celebrates 40 years of service

Scott Masters of Masters & Associates Insurance is proud to be celebrating 40 years of service. In his role as president of the company, he continues a tradition started by his father, Bob Masters, in the 1950s. Scott Masters operates the business along with his brother, Mike Masters (vice president) and sister, Lisa Masters Tinnel.

“Honesty, integrity and customer service, those are the three things that we have built the agency on. That came from our dad and Fred Cochenour, who established a solid foundation for the business,” said Scott Masters.

He said the history of the company dates back to 1929, when Cochenour started an independent agency.

“For me, customer service has been a key component of my success,” Masters said. “We have been actively involved in taking very good care of our customers. We appreciate the fact that they do business with us and we do our best to give them the proper service that they deserve.”

What the business does: As a local, family owned-and-operated business, Masters & Associates Insurance, a part of Keystone Insurers Group, is a one-stop source for insurance needs. As an independent company, they specialize in offering personal, automobile, homeowners, business and life insurance. They also network with other top providers to offer specialty insurance products. The business is actively involved in the community and supports local schools.

“We treat people the way we want to be treated. We want to be fair, honest and provide good, solid service at a reasonable price,” Masters said.

How the business started: In 1954, Bob Masters joined the Cochenour-Lenz Insurance Agency. In 1962, Cochenour-Masters was formed. The company moved to its current location in 1975 and the name was formally changed to Masters & Associates Insurance in 1999. Scott joined the company in 1973 and Mike came on board in 1976. Lisa has served the agency for 26 years. The company has a total of seven employees.

Recent developments: Masters said technology has exploded in the insurance business, from television and radio advertising, to the Internet and beyond. Insurance companies are spending big on advertising, which has resulted in more intense competition.

“It used to be telephone, mail, faxing, or email,” Masters said. “Now with all of the various areas of technology and applications that can be purchased for smartphones, it’s an information explosion.”
